Radiator fans stuck on, I search, yes
I have read all I can for the last 5 hours, but I am stumped somewhat
My beast is a Dec 09 Build 2.1 V6 FWD. Built in the last 14 days of X Type production.
VIN J63537
I would have thought all the Gremlins were gone, haha.
Today, arrived home, and the fans are on, FULL, mmm, never had that before. Shut it down, NO A/C used at all today, and the fans stayed ON. OK, a run down cycle, NO, after 30 minutes still flat out, bugga.
Restarted the thing, temp is fine, A/C is NOT on, Front Defrost is NOT on. I went and cycled all them, just because, NO change.
Disconnected the battery, let it cool.
Coolant level = spot on.
Ign ON, unplug the CTS, NO change.
Ign OFF, key in pocket, = no change.
Pulled fuse #16 (Radiator fans speed control) = NO change.
Tapped (smacked) a few things, NO change.
I have had stuck relays on the other Jags, XJS were bad, and this is what it feels like, but I dont know where, or if, there are relays for the fans power supply, I reckon there would be, but??? where are they. Maybe inside this module.
Read some more, still none the wiser.
I suspect the module has simply gone AWOL, but my JEPC does not list it,just a blank space where a part number would be.
My biggest issue Is I working mainly from a chair, with short bursts on crutches. I would like to know EXACTLY where this thing is located. I believe the Air Filter and Battery need to come out, but where to from there. I see snaps on ?bay, some a finned alloy, some are not, so what would I be looking for on the real late car, please.
If there is something I am missing in Diagnosis, speak up, I am all ears.
Thanks in advance.
OH, there were NO codes prior to battery disconnect.

When my FCM failed, it reacted the same way. Fine, car started, drove to market, shut off car, fan kept running which it had NEVER done.
Shopped came out and fan still running. Got a replacement from member Dr Dome and replaced it. No problems since.
Just ensure you buy an OEM FCM and not one of the Asian ones. They never work correctly, period.
As for "finned" vs the other one, the "finned" are after 2004.25 change. There is also a conversion sold here in the U.S. to use the new "finned" FCM in an older Jag = pre 2004.25.

Grant, I would have to agree wtih Dell that odds are your fan control module bit the dust. If you are curious where it is, open the hood/bonnet and then walk straight at the car. With your knees where the license plate should be, put your hands on the top of the radiator. If you stretch your right hand fingers a little more, you should see the silver finned module tucked in a little corner on the fan housing, tucked in next to the headlight housing. I am sure if you look around here, there are tons of write ups on how to remove the module and swap in a new one. You can probably just get a new module and undo the 2 connectors to the module and plug it in for the moment till you can get some time to swap out the module and mount it properly.
Thanks all,. I found that sucker.
4 hours later, its out. I'd rather change the spark plugs on a V12, than deal with this thing.
If not for my physical issues, I woiuld relocate this thing outside the engine bay, its in a bloody HOT location for electrickery bits and pieces.
Original = July 09 "made date" and a SMALL "PRC "in the corner of the label, oh well, whats NOT made there if we are honest.
New on its way, so now the V12 mentallty has kicked it, "while I am in here, and so much is removed", is keeping me busy.
Update again when new fitted.

UPDATE
FCM arrived, finally, trust ?bay, not on your life.
Fitted, all the junk reinstalled.
Battery connected, NO fans, whoopee.
Ign ON, engine OFF. fans on FULL, oops, but I was warned, so no foul.
Engine running, fans the same. A/C ON, fans slow down, mmmm. A/C OFF, the stay slower for about 30secs, oh well. At least I can drive the beast.
Today's outing had me lined up in traffic alongside a Pantrech Semi, so you hear EVERYTHING. NO fan noise, mmmm, A/C was ON, what the heck. Temp gauge SPOT ON where its always been.
Stopped at the shops, engine OFF, fans stayed ON for 5 seconds, GOODO.
I will live with this for now, but our now short running (its what it is as we age), I will need to plug the Battery Minder in after use. OK, I will play Tesla, why not, always good for a laugh.
Eyes are open for an X200, or X300, as I will eventually move this beast on.
