Default radio question

to anyone who has seen the back of the stock radio, can you tell me if we have a normal antennae input? finally broke down and got a sirius player and want to hardwire it in via an fm modulator, but i just want to make sure we have a regular antennae input on the back.

well....

rs componenets did not have any fm modulator listed for sale.

the fm modulator from Maplin had the same connection on it as the other radios i have had in my time, so i don't think that will work.

the only one listed on halfords was a discontinued item.

the search continues....

What exactly are you trying to do? Jag sells a kit you can buy to hook up your Ipod and a few other items....

as for adding something else through the wiring...you'll need fiber optics to make it happen.....

As for you Sirius radio..the FM modulator should tune to your radio without wires.....unless you got an older model...

i have the kit you speak of, the ACM. while this would work in theory, i do not want to have to unplug my usb key every time i want to listen to sirius and back again after. with an fm modulator connected to the antenna it would just take over the signal when i powered the sirius unit on.

has nothing at all to do with the fiber optic portion of our systems. i just need to get an adapter from the european to american version of the antenna wire.

yes, all sirius models have a wireless fm transmitter in them, but the sound quality is not the best. and actually, the older models (like the starmate replay) have a better modulator in them than the newer ones. the fcc made sirius turn down the power in the later models.

one more question for ya racer...

the trim around the radio/heating controls.. a guid i found for something else says to just use a trim removal tool to pop it out to remove the 2 top torx screws (got the shifter bezel, ashtray and 2 lower torx screws already). is this true? to me it looked like the trim was one solid piece along with the dash. your experience?

The trim around the headed seats and haz button will come out it you gently use a small screwdriver and pop it out. It's not part of the dash or radio.

Once you remove the shifter bezel and ashtray, remove the two torque screws and the two up by the heated seats hax button, the radio assy can be removed......

nice..

I got tired of messing with all that stuff...one reason why i replaced the entire radio with something more efficient and more options..

well, this is the last step in my stereo modifications. now i will have everything i could possibly want - usb port, rca inputs, sirius - and it is all controlled by the sterring wheel and all still has the factor look.

i was kind of dreading where i was going to stash all the wiring for the sirius back there, but there is a ton of room under the ashtray area.
