Default Rain Sensing Wipers

Hi everyone,
I bought a 2003 X-Type. It is my first Jag and so far, I LOVE it. Really, it is in great condition and has few problems for 100,000 miles. So here is one of the problems. The rain sensing wipers never stop. They go slower and faster depending on how much water is on the window, but they never go slower than the slowest intermittent setting... Now, I checked the rain sensor (I had to replace the rear view mirror anyway) and i cleaned it spotless. No help. Even when i disconnect the rain sensor all together, it still wipes slowly. This makes me think that it could be the rain sensor control module under the dash. Could this be the case? I thought sensor at first, but if i disconnect it, I would think they would stop all together from what I have read.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! These forums have already been a great help to me!

I have the exact same model with 3.0 engine. So far no issues with the rain sensing wipers. Though at times i seen that the wipers go faster when rain increases and doesn't slow down even after rain has slowed down. I move the wipers from auto to next position and come back and it workd fine after that.

yea, mine just keep going... I am sure the rain sensor control module isn't cheap. I wonder if it is adjustable at all? I have read about the rain sensor itself all over this board, but nothing about the control module.

And you have it set to auto right? Has nothing to do with the mirror, it has a mylar type film on the windshield that senses the rain.

Not on my 2003 x-type. It uses a sensor attached to the windshield near the base of the rear view mirror. This in turn is connected to a module under the dash on the drivers side.

100% sure on that as i can hold my hand over the sensor and it affects the speed.

Personally, I don't like the rain sensing wipers. They go on way too soon and never seem to be the right speed, at least to me. Just seems too gimmicky too when. Maybe I'm just a control freak.

Mine are perfect, I haven't turned my wipers on or off in a couple of years.

That's good, but I found that my windshield was becoming scratched from the times the system became "confused" between twilight and light rain and swept accumulated road grit across the glass.

Ours are also working exactly as designed. I leave them on Auto all of the time.

So I thought to myself "i've never seen a rain sensor control module before." So i did a little ebay search and found one for $40 with free shipping. If you have essential a tank of gas at your disposal go ahead and try swapping it! Also you could probably get it for $30 if you made the seller an offer with the "make an offer" button.
