JohnB, bleeding the brakes on this car is just like any other vehicle. You will need an 11MM wrench to open the bleed valve. I tend to use a 4 foot piece of tygon with one end on the bleeder valve, the center masking taped to the top of the wheel well and the open end left in a bottle (leave a little extra coiled in the bottom to form a seal once you get a little fluid in the bottle). From there, you can bleed the brakes yourself and not need the help of a second person. Just make sure to keep enough fluid in the reservoir.

If you need me to go into more detail, just say so.

stephen, due to the design of the e-brake system and also some interaction with the ABS system, it is best that you crack the bleeder valve on the caliper and then get a compression tool that will allow you to turn the piston as you push it in. The piston will need to be pushed in with a given direction of motion (one side is clockwise, other side is counterclockwise.). It will be pretty obvious when you go to do it as when you turn it, the piston will want to come out of the caliper if you are going the wrong way. Once you get the brakes re-installed, then you will need to bleed the brakes to get rid of any air you may have introduced. This should be done with each brake service anyways unless you are racing the car and going through a set of pads in a weekend. Then you have other issues to deal with.

If you are having trouble bleeding the brakes, hit amazon and pick up a power bleeder, i had to for mine.

Here is the bad part. If you have been bleeding the brakes old school on an X type, you could have very well destroyed the master cylinder and power brake booster. The boosters are really tempermental, and if you have done long stroke bleeding or had a hydraulic failure with a cylinder or brake line, that may be an issue. It happened when my wife was driving adn a $10 line turned into a $600 repair. Hope you fair better.

Good luck
