Smile Rear Catalytic Converter Removal 2005

Hello,

I have a x-type 2005 3.0 AWD.

I just recently purchased this Jaguar. With any used car there were some teething problems which caused the bank 1 set of cylinders to misfire and may have damaged the bank 1 catalytic converter. I say this as once I sorted the misfire problems I heard a rattling sound from the engine bay as I accelerated. After about 15 min this went away then the dreaded P0420 code came up about 50 kilometres later.

From reading the forum it looks like the cat is stuffed.

Can the rear(firewall side bank 1) catalytic converter be removed without dropping the transfer case?
If so can you please explain how?

Cheers
Ross

The transfer case is not the problem. You will need to lower the sub frame. You also need to remove the rack bolts for clearance and then you can remove it out thru the passenger wheel well. Removing the intake manifold is necessary for access to the bolts.
If you don't have a copy of the X-Type tech manual send me a PM with your email address I can provide a link to my drop box to download the Shop Manual.
