Default Rear centre seat belt

Have recently read in the owner's manual about the rear centre seat belt not being able to be used unless the seat back is locked in the correct position.Apparently it's a safety feature. The thing I can't get my head round is why only the centre belt ? Is it ok to send passengers in the other two rear seats hurtling forward into the back of the seats or am I missing something

The other rear passengers get stopped by the seats in front of them. The centre passenger launches through the windscreen? Just a guess.

Ah that'll be it .Well fair enough ,that sounds like the strange logic I'd expect from my local car manufacturers

I think you might find that the need to secure the center seat back is only relevant to the estate/wagon versions, not the saloons. In the estate/wagon the center shoulder height seat belt guide fixture is in the seat back, so needing the seat back to be secured. The outboard seatbelt guides are attached to the C posts, independent of the seat backs..

Thanks for that, just checked mine (saloon) and see what you mean, although I have noticed as it was one of the first times that I've been in the back, that the seat belt anchors do seem to dig in to the leather of the seats quite a bit
