Neil, you can fix this yourself. It is the shaft that runs from the e-brake lever into the caliper. If you remove the lever, you can then remove a rubber boot that surrounds the shaft. From there, you can use some WD-40 or other rust removing fluid and squirt it down the side of the shaft. With a little bit of work, it will allow you to get past MOT. To fix it long term, you can then either get a new caliper or you can spend about $30 USD to get a 14mm pentasocket (yes, a 5 sided socket) and a caliper rebuild kit and tear the caliper down yourself. It is pretty easy. Then you can remove that shaft completely and clean up the surfaces to make things run perfect again.

If you want more info on the rebuild, check out: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...fix-1-a-73065/
