rear passenger door
help rear passenger door wont unlock i've got the door card off and i still can't get the door to unlock/open can anybody help i've taken the plugs off the door solenoid checked the voltage going to the solenoid all seems ok but i still can't get the bl**dy door to open is there a catch or some way to open the door from inside the door
4x4xfar, if you have the door panel off, I would first reach down and make sure that the child safety lock is off. That can be part of your issue. After that, I would try to manually do the latch and see if things work that way. If they don't, then you have a back latch assembly inside the door and that will require you to use a screw driver to manually rotate the clip that is holding the door shut. From there, you will have to install a new latch assembly.
i've never put the child locks on so i don't think thats the issue and i pull the cable and the door still won't open. where is this latch and where and what type of screwdriver do i use thanks Thermo
Look at the other side. When you open the door, you will see a little post that sticks out that the door latches on to so the door remains shut. The part inside the door that holds it there is the "latch". As for popping it open, you will more thank likely need a flat bladed screw driver. I can't say that I have done this on a Jag, but you will need to find a C shaped clip that gets rotated around the post in the door jam. Using the screw driver, you are going to manually rotate the C piece around to allow the door to open. From there, you will be able to open the door and get at things much easier. From there, replace the whole assembly that holds the door shut. It comes out with a few bolts and disconnecting a few linkages inside the door. That should get you taken care of.
As for never engaging the child lock, do not say that it didn't get engaged. On my Ford Expedition, you can open the door, set the child safety lock to off, pull on the door handle a few times and watch the lock walk itself to the "Engaged" position. It could even have been accidentally bumped at some point. Hard to say what could have moved it.
