Repair Bill WTF?!!
2206 x-type:
Just got a call from the service manager at the local dealership. Took the car in for a check engine light. Along with a check valve and leaking vacuum line they found a coolant leak between the reservoir and radiator; also are "suggesting" we replace the upper radiator hose which is "swollen".... should that cost $860.02???
I'm not a certified mechanic but have some dealings under a hood. I have replaced radiators, water pumps, tensioner pulleys, power steering gear boxes and done minor repairs on every other vehicle I have ever owned. From Fords to Jeeps to Hondas. Is a Jag really that much different that a normal $17.00 part should cost over $800 to repair? Or am I just getting royally screwed because of the brand name?
Somebody help

Sorry to hear you are having issues. From your description it sounds like you could do this yourself. Search a thread called: "replacing top rad hose and thermostat housing". That will explain what is all involved so you know what you are up against. Sounds like it might be a pain, but not difficult. You can decide yourself if you want to tackle it.
A Jag does have its quirks that is unique to the model itself, but for the most part it isn't any different than most cars. Pretty much anything that has gone wrong with these cars has been discussed here and fixed. From the sound of your vacuum leaks those were very simple to address and you could have done those yourself as well. Surf around here when you have a problem and you will be surprised at the wealth of information and friendly people willing to help.
Good luck!

mygirlsjag, as mentioned above you sound like you know the business end of a screwdriver, these vehicles are easily DIY'ed believe it or not.
If you don't feel like wrenching send fellow member Jon89 here a PM and he has a few places in Raleigh he would recommend other than your dealers there.
