Default Replace the wood dashboard?

I have a used 2003 X-Type that originated from Nevada. Due to the heat there it has suffered some serious cracking on the maple dash pieces. I have bought new ones, and am ready to put them in, but I am unsure how to remove the dash pieces. Does anyone have a diagram or something to guide me. Especially for the passenger side that covers the airbag. (really don't want to screw that up, or get punched in the face by my car)

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm in the same boat now. I just cracked my passenger airbag cover. I found pictures of the back of the panel, but I'm still very lost with how to get that dang thing off

Just found this thread. I guess it just pulls right off and then reveals the internals. Anyone want to back that inference up?

Yes. I just replaced mine yesterday. The dash panel over the gauges pulls right off. I had to reach into where the gauges are and just pull it out. (the heater vents are attached to it, so they will come out with it) It is on clips and it pops right out. For the airbag one, make sure you have disconnected the battery, so you don't set off the airbag, and you might need a small pry tool to dislodge this one since there is nowhere decent to get a grip, but it pops off similarly to the other side, but it is attached to the dash by some straps. You need to pull the long metal pin out to remove the straps, and then you are good to go.

Hope that helps.

Helps A LOT! Thanks for the description! When I get around to it, I will hopefully be able to snag some photos
