Replacing / Changing Low Beam Headlights on an 2002 X-Type
I am posting for a buddy of mine who owns a 2002 X-Type. He's not mechanically inclined and I have never worked on his car before. I need to replace the bulbs in his headlights and from reading various threads on this topic, I've heard it's not an easy task. I've read that some people remove the entire front bumper, some remove the battery, etc...
What exactly needs to be done? I don't need to hear how difficult it is because that's not the problem. I'd like to replace his bulbs for him so he doesn't need to take it to a dealership, but I'd like to know the steps I need to take so I don't do any unnecessary removals.

driver side
remove battery cover
remove battery
remove battery box
(the rest applies to both sides)
remove outer plastic cover. this is done by releasing the metal backet on each side, which simply snaps away from the center
remove bulb. on either side of the wires leading to the bulb is a small metal bracket that holds it in place via pressure. it works on the same principle as a saftey pin. unclip both sides.
pull old bulb out, and remove it from the mount. the bulb simply sides into the mount. this may require some force to pull it out, but it will come out.
reverse to install, but do no touch the bulb with your bare hands. oil is bad for them.

Replacing the bulbs is a real bitch to do..........Hope you got smalllll hands.
Just dont lose your patience as well as too much off your knuckles...lol

I watched though and he did it in double quick time without the need for removing any parts.

Hey GSXR............Mines an 02 and the sparky did it fairly easily. Yes it was tight, and yes it was fiddly, but he did manage, albeit with scraped bruised n battered fingers...lol
Obviously I'm sure he's been in this position with many different types of cars before though!
You thinkin you may have to remove some parts after all?
