Default Replacing the cooling fan

Hey guys, so the fan control module went out on my 2003 3.0L X-type. I bought a fan from a salvage yard and swapped the electronics, which seems to work well, but the lower fan seems to be physically damaged. It doesn't spin freely and makes a terrible noise when it runs. For the time being, I've disconnected it, but I live in Las Vegas and it's about to be really hot here, so I need to do a real fix asap.

My question is, can I get the car up high enough on jack stands to swap out the fan? And are there any pitfalls I need to look out for? It's the lower fan that is bad, so even if I can't get the entire housing out, I'm hoping I can at least swap the actual fan.

Also, since I assume I'll need to drain the coolant (please let me know if I'm wrong), I'm thinking this would be a good time to replace some hoses. How difficult is it to get to the bottom of that "Y" hose that comes out of the reservoir?

Thanks in advance!
Kevin

I have fans if you need them. It will be easier to remove the unit as a whole then replace the fans.

Good luck,

Thanks, Dr!

But I've got the fan; it was cheaper to buy a complete fan housing with controller than to buy the controller alone. My concern is if I'll have the clearance needed to get it out from under the car. If I can't get it all the way out, I'll consider just swapping the faulty fan (getting them out of the housing is pretty easy, they're each held in by 3 easily accessed bolts), but would prefer to replace the whole housing.

2 jack stands and some wiggle room you will be able to get it out.

Good Luck,

Default 2003 Cooling fan Replacement

I have a 2003 X-type the fans quite coming on and would over heat. I found a complete new shroud with fans and controller, installed it but now realize the plug on the new one only has one the old had two any hints or help????? Can I make this work somehow?

Bummer...

You mean the connections from the module to the car, not the module to the fans, right? Did someone cut it when they removed the housing at the salvage yard? Maybe you could cut it the connector off your old unit and splice the wires together?

Good luck. That sounds extremely frustrating.
