Angry Reprogram jag keyfob/xmitter?

I just acquired a used Jag key fob/transmitter. But my local Jaguar dealer is now telling me that this xsmitter cannot now be re-purposed for a different car. I see lots of online advice about ways to do it, even on your own. What's the truth about this? Are there no ways around the unconscionable cost ($500) that the dealer wants for a working key xsmitter?

Did you try this

http://www.bluejag.co.uk/X-Type-keyf...rogramming.php

Even so, I had a brand new fob, key blade cut and programmed for around 160 USD

Very like other advice I have seen; thanks. I suspect that my "new" fob's battery needs changing, but this suggests that I do NOT have to have a costly never-before-used fob, but CAN repurpose this old one for a different car. Correct?

Check with these people

Seems the important bit is to programme all the keys at once
