Had my transmission oil changed at a local garage, they removed the wrong nut. reverse linkage slipped and now it goes in reverse gear, but does not move. That old chestnut.
does someone have a video or good explanation as to how I can remove the bolt plug, drill a hole, replace the linkage with out removing the transmission?
I would sure appreciate the help.
thank you
Tom
Tomz, from the sounds of things, the problem is not yours to correct. The shop made the mistake and therefore they should be the ones on the hook to fix. It doesn't matter if they were only doing a $100 job. Would you be pissed off at a shop and expecting them to put a new engine into your car if they failed to refill the oil pan after doing an oil change? The same concept here.
Tomz, I agreed with Thermo here, you should bring it back to the shop have them correct the problem, if they refuse to do then you file the complain with local common court, and Better Business Bureau.
They ABSOLUTELY removed the wrong bolt, it holds the reverse pin in place. There is a way in these forums to fix it without removing the transmission, but tough beans. They messed it up, they fix it.
DO NOT remove the wrong bolt, it will disengage the reverse pin in transmission.
Let me quote from the technical bulletin on the JATCO JF506E : "Customers
driving Jaguar, Land Rover Freelander and VW vehicles are experiencing a
no-reverse condition after fluid service or rebuild installation. This could
be caused by mistaking the reduction-band anchor bolt for the fluid check
plug. This mistake is easily made, but the consequences are time consuming
and expensive. Once the reduction-band anchor is removed, the band will move
out of place, which causes the transmission to seriously slip in forward
gears and lose reverse. (AND HERE IS THE PART YOU WILL NOT LIKE: ) Fixing
this mistake means dropping and disassembling the transmission"
