Default Reversing Sensor/Lights Not working

Not sure if these are connected. A few days ago my rear reversing sensors appeared to stop working. I have since found out that my reversing lights are also not working. I went and bought new lights but this did not fix the lights.

Are the two connected?

I have just purchased a volt meter to test the fuses but if anyone has got any other pointer these would be appreciated.

Thanks

graham, the parking aide sensor system gets an input from the reverse switch on the tranny. Do you have a manual tranny or an automatic tranny? Let me know and I will try to give you a few quick checks to make to isloate the problem down to a specific problem. But, odds are, it is the switch on the tranny that is your problem barring a fuse issue.

Thanks Chris & Luke.

I have a manual 6speed gearbox if that helps.

Dewi, first look at fuse 82 (assuming you have an 02 or 03 vehicle) and verify that it is good. It is possible that the fuse blew due to age or something and that would do what you are seeing. Then look on the tranny and you should find a 2 wire plug on the side of the tranny that has 2 green wires with black stripes on them. Disconnect the plug and install a paper clip or small piece of wire in the plug to short the 2 terminals together. You will need to have the ignition switch in the RUN position to make the back up lights work. If the lights come on when the jumper is installed, then your switch in the tranny is bad and you need a new switch. If the jumper doesn't cause the lights to come on, then you have a wiring issue. Write me back and I will give you some more checks to make.
