has anyone else had a rust issue on their 02-03 X-Type. I posted a issue about a year ago (some of you old timers might remember) and I just wonder if anyone else has had the same issue.

 

Nope..I was just under the other day doing the oil..and looked over the areas you had problems with..still clean as a whistle..(knock wood)..Don't tell me you are experiencing rust again?[&:]

 

oh no. thank god. I did some research and found out that it was only the 02 and 03 that had that issue. I now have an 05 so no worries there.

 

jvegas-keep in mind Dennis is from Texas! My 03 mercury mountaineer looks brand new underneath minus needing a washing. There is no such thing as rust down here!

 

Mine is pretty bad... still. I actually had a body shop look at it. I told them the situaiton (selling the car in less than a year, etc), and they said they would pull the doors/fenders/rocker panel covers, and grind as much out as possible, bondo, seal, and spray it all for $1,000. They said that if I wanted to do it, that it would be best to do it *right* before I went to sell it. They pretty much gaurantee it will come back pretty fast.
They do say it's not catastrophic, but I think it's terrible. My areas are about the size of a grapefruit on either side, with lots of paint lifting and flaking.
