RE: Rust proofing
the factory has some locaitons where the corrosion protection is a wax based product. most of the spray on stuff like Krown will melt the factory stuff.
For the 02 X-type there are some critical areas that are missing any factory protection at all..
I would be careful of where you spray stuff. for sure the rocker panels need a coating of stuff. the best is the factory wax based stuff. I dont think that the aftermarket stuff is any good beyond a short term solution.
To spray the wax on.. it is best done on a hot summer day... when the metal on the car is hot, and then the wax needs to be heated to be liquid.
anyway.. for the rocker panels,,, something is better than nothing... but to stop rusting there.. it will take more than a quick spray of Krown.

Not to bump an old thread, but I have the infamous oil pan gasket leak, and I'm also looking at rust proofing.
Krown is a liquid oil based product. It's been fine on most of my vehicles, but I'm concerned about using it on the X-Type.
Can anyone comment on the wax based products?
I think this one is waxed based.

What areas would need attention (not protected well from the factory).
Would anyone recommend the factory mud guards as well?

When I bought my X-Type in 2003 (a demonstrator) and rust was shown on the hood seams (was replaced under warranty), I fought and won with Ford to allow the Krown without voiding my warranty... I have the letter allowing this, so for 6 years have been spraying my car and my car is still rust free... Anyways it is up to Tata Motors now I guess, and so maybe a new battle.
