So I am planning on picking up a 2002 2.5L, i found a few posts about rust and now im scared to DEATH about possible rust issues! What do I need to look for before driving away? What is an acceptable amount of rust? Are there any pictures of a clean or average undercarriage? I can't seem to find any.

I am in NY the car is from illinois (even more snow and salt!!!) I had looked around the base of the A frame and it looked spotless but now I am having doubts. From what I could see on the undercarriage I recall some rust, I think on the exhaust.

Any help is appreciated.

 

Check for rust in the lower A pillar (door hinge area) and along the drivers side sill. Major rust here compromises the structural integrity of the car and is usually repaired only cosmetically due to multiple internal layers.
