Default Coil and plugs didn't fix it

I changed all of the plugs and put a new coil on #1 and it still runs horribly. It still comes up with P0301 and P1000 and P1313. 301 does indicate cylinder 1 right? And cylinder1is the front one on the passengers side right? What else could it be?

Don't know the engine layout but P0301 is cyl 1. Could be wiring, I suppose, but maybe more likely you figured the wrong one as cyl1.

Should be in JTIS - free download.

#1 cylinder is the one closest to the firewall on the passenger side under the intake manifold.

Engine Layout

---------------- Firewall
Passenger side 1 - 3 - 5 Drivers Side

-------------- 2 - 4 - 6

-------------- Radiator

Default Are you kidding me?

That mean I changed the wrong one and had it all apart and have to do it all again?

Default New problem.

I went back and changed the correct ignition coil #1 and that problem is now ok. BUT I HAVE A NEW PROBLEM! It now shows a P0102 and a P0112. I must have forgotten the re-attach one of the plugs? It is really hot right now, I will check in a little while! Any suggestions?

Default One cable not plugged In

I left the MAF cable disconnected. I was going on memory and not following the printed directions like the first time and left one thing undone! I am still getting a P1000 code but it starts and sounds good with no CEL. Follow directions.

Thanks to everyone for all the help! One of the great things about the internet is awesome forums like this where those with experience can help those with less experience. My dad taught me how to work on cars, but not one of these beasts. On to my next problem ......

Well done! and ... agreed about the forums. On a different forum (MR2OC) I did and engine and transmission swap purely based on information given there ... it's amazing what you can accomplish with friendly knowledgeable help!

P1000 is due to clearing codes. Make sure after a few drives it goes to P1111 and all is good.

I realize this post went from "what's a good scanner" to diagnosing codes, but as I'm searching posts for a proper scanner recommendation I see a lot of talk about the ELM 327 with Bluetooth. I've also read some comments that the ELM327 isn't accurate or registers the wrong codes. My Jag is a 2006, and I have an iPhone, so I'm not too sure the ELM will work. I'd also like to be able to read any Tranny codes too. I'm having some issues with the temperamental house cat after the tune up and spark plug replacement and everyone is baffled. It isn't throwing codes, a engine light or a fault message so I'm driving around with a sense of caution and I'd like to put that apprehension to ease. Seems most suggestions are ELM, any others?

They generally give the right codes but some apps / web sites turn the codes into wrong text descriptions. You'll often see people here ask for the actual code. The codes data is in JTIS - free download.

OK, I had a P0301 and replaced all the plugs and the coil on cylinder 1. It ran very well for a week. My wife was driving it and it died and the check engine light was flashing again. Now the code reader gives me a P1367, P0351, P0353 and P0355. WTF, is going on now? I am totally lost! I thought we had this in the bag. Can someone please give me some direction?

That does not sound good! All 3 coils could not be bad, one is the new one (unless something else fried them). The connector pins were fine about 200 miles ago when I changed the plugs and coil #1. The ignition circuit ground fault would affect all 6 cylinders probably but not necessarily. Damaged ECM. I seem to remember the dealer telling me that they could not program the car to accept new keys when I lost them recently and they found a wire off on some control module. Could it be the same module? Where is the ECM?
Thanks, Rick (we will get to the bottom of this I am sure, with your help.).

It's not going to be the PCM.

Hunt through the Electrical Guide for what's common, could easily be a disturbed harness.

Tranny codes? Your choices are limited. Mongoose JLR is an option but, if you have other vehicle makes you wish to use it on its a no go. Auto enginuity is another option. But that can get spendy for the expansions. The one I use is Launch Creader VIII (aka Launch CRP129). Reads powertrain (including tranny), ABS, and airbag.
