Default scrubbing wheels

Hi everyone, i am hoping some one can help me, i have a jag 2.1 v6 sport and i have just bought it. i put 12 months test on it and it needed 2 new front tyres which i had put on but every time i go round a corner or even brake round a corner the tyres are catching on something ? has anyone got any ideas what it could be. hopefully nothing to serious ??

I've copied this question from your Intro for advice from members with the same model.

You should confirm:

1) it didn't happen before
2) you've put exactly the same size tyres on

Sorry forgot to mention, i dont know if happened before as i have just bought the car and i put exactly the same size tyres on as was on before which are 205x55x17.

Robert, if you are running a tire with a soft rubber compound, they will tend to remain sticky and will give you that squealing tire effect. I get it in the wife's Ford Fusion. It goes away over time as you apply heat to the tire and the rubber compounds harden slightly, making them not quite as sticky.

thanks for that Chris but it definitely sounds like it is catching on something under the wheel arch ? it is a rubbing sound and the tighter you turn the worse it gets. ?

I would think that size would fit without any issues, but if the car was lowered a lot or the wheels are aftermarket with a different offset that could cause an issue. I believe the stock size in 17" in 225/45 17. Are you sure it is the tire rubbing? Front or rear? Have you looked in the wheel arch to see where it could rub? Is the wheel arch liner properly fixed and not maybe hanging a bit I would think that would be easy to see? Is the car otherwise in good shape? Is the suspension in good shape? Any other noises with the car? Picture of the car? You didn't give a lot to go on. I'm sure everyone here can quickly get to the bottom of your issue, just need a little more info.

Thanks Alfadude,the car is in excellent shape its a 2002 plate x-type V6 2.1 petrol. I have felt inside the wheel arch and believe me it is tight. there is about 15-20 mm gap from the strut to the tyre. it definitely sounds like the tyre rubbing on the plastic inner wheel arch liner. The new tyres i have fitted are the same size as the ones that came off but if they are wrong i will just have to change them (expensive) but if it stops the noise then so be it.

It is very hard to tell from your Avatar because the picture is so small, but those almost look like Aruba wheels, but those only came in 18". If not, then they must be aftermarket. It does look a lot tighter than I would think the stock look would be. Maybe post a picture of your car and we could probably tell from that.

I have had another good close look at it and it looks like the tyres are definitely at fault.they should be 45's and not 55's. just looking at it the tyres seem massive even tho they are the same tyres that came off the car. Looks like i will have to spend another £200 on 2 more new tyres now.
