Seat problem
You need to double check the X series for his car. The X-Type went out of production in 2009. Is it an XF, XJ or what. Once you know you will need to repost to the correct forum section
J. Power, to me, it sounds like there is a stuck button on the memory buttons. I would check those buttons. Could it be that he is accidentally hitting a button every time he gets into the car? Something else you may want to try is programming all 3 buttons to the same seat position. If the seat remains in the same position, then this would help to confirm that either you have a stuck button or the buttons are getting bumped.
If the seat still moves, then it may be possible that the computer for the driver's seat is loosing its battery power and is loosing its memory when the car is turned off. When power is re-applied, the seat will go to a default position.
Like was mentioned, the X-Type went out of production in 2009. So, he has either an XF or an XJ. It should be listed on the boot/trunk of the car. If for some reason you are not sure, are the tail lights taller than they are wide (XJ) or are they wider than they are tall (XF).
