Default Sensor: air leak!?

Hi Guys,

I can hear air coming from the top of this sensor. The air is leaking from the area of the red arrow. What is this sensor for and should air be coming from it?

Dalecan,I had a vacume leak in the same location. If you take that out, its just an "O" ring inside to seal it. I was unable to find an "O" ring to replace it with, and also I live about 2.5 hrs away from the nearest dealership. If you hit up your nearest auto parts store and get some "do-it-yourself" gasket material, cut out a gasket to fit in between the plastic moulding and the aluminum of the manifold and it will fix the problem. I found the easiest way to make the pattern was by first removing the part and hold the gasket up to the opening and tracing around it for the outside dimentions. Once you cut that out, try to cut out the center to match the size of the inside diameter of the opening the "sensor" fits in (cut smaller first then try to fit it over the sensor, cutting away just a little more if you need to). After the inside is cut out to size, slip it over the sensor and use a pen to make the locations of the screw holes by "drawing" through the holes in the sensor. Cut those out, and re-assemble everything with your new gasket between the sensor and manifold! If your check engine light is on, go back to the auto parts store and see if they will clear the codes for free (autozone, discount auto, etc). should have about 3 codes showing too lean on bank 1, too lean bank 2, and another i dont remember.... if they clear them you should be money, if not... wait about 60 miles or so and it should turn off if that was your only problem. Hope this helps!

IMT valve. You need a new o-ring. May as well do lower too. If you are doing as chilltj suggests and making your own, but on the lower, you may have to remove the intake. If you get the o-rings you can slip the new one over the valve on the lower without having to remove the intake. May as well check your PCV hose and your brake booster hose. Do a search on lean codes 0171 and 0174, or vacuum leaks and all the info will be there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Just to let you know that I replaced the O ring for the top sensor (it cost ~$2.50 from the dealer) and it's fixed the leak. The job took less than 5 mins. After driving her for 80 miles the engine warning light has gone out, so I didn't even have to reset the warning light. Chuffed, and very easy fix.

I just need to sort out my brake judder now; waiting for the parts to come.

Simple, fast and easy. Gotta love those type of fixes.
