Should I buy? If I do, what do I watch out for?
Hey all,
I found what looks to be a great deal on an '04 X-type 3.0 with only26,000 miles. They're only asking 15K. Every non jag owner I speak to, of course says, "Don't buy a jag. It'll be in the shop all the time andit'll cost you a fortune." I desperately do not want that to be true. I'm looking for some reassurance here. Can anyone boast of an ultra reliable Jaguar? Also, does the above mentioned price sound appropriate? And if so, what do I need to check out before buying? Anything in particular that the '04's are known for?
I guess any info you could offer would be helpful. Thanks.

price seems fair enough, depending on what options it has. for a base model with no toys that seems a bit high, but not unreasonable. you will still have the factory warranty until 50k or 4 years from the in-service date, which could be as far away as 12-08 in a best case scenario. there isn't anything persay that goes wrong with all 04 models, but the biggest reported problem has to do with replacing the prop (drive) shaft.
some options to look for are: sunroof, HID lighting (will have little washer spouts outisde), heated seats, power passenger seat, navigation system (big screen where the radio is), cruise, rear parkingassist (4 sensors visible on the bottom of the rear bumper), trip computer (3 buttons underthe headlight switch).
also, try the big 3 to check prices in your area, with your options:

www.nada.com
www.edmunds.com

Jaguar have been quite reliable namely from late XJ40s . When it comes to X Type you should buy it a model aslate as possible .Being a '04 you should watch out thetranny and make sure if maintained and not abused .I don't think you will regret .
Whatever you buy hope you like and happy with it

That is a steal for that car imo. Depending on the options whether its 2.5 or 3.0 and what not. It should be under warranty and if it is you can also purchase a select edition or extended warranty through jag for less than 2k if it doesn't already have it. This way even if there are problems you can take it directly to a jag dealer and let them fix it. These aren't any worse than any other car imo as well. Every car has its problems whether or not its import, american or luxury...

I'd say go for it. Like Aquill said, any car can have problems, so get the extended warranty. You'll have a solid car and peace of mind. The 04 is a very solid model but I think it could be a bit cheaper, unless it's absolutely immaculate and has a few extras.

Is that £15k or $15k?
Done around 24000 miles in over 2.5 years ownership and no probs with my 02 3.0 most reliable car I have owned in 23 years.Only had minor problem with a wheel speed sensor which was replaced under theaftermarket warranty that came with the car.Get one or regret it

Hey Eddie...........go for 04 or above if you can as most of the teething problems / issues have been ironed out since then. Although my 02 with 16K on the clock when I got it has covered another 12K in the last year and I have had no trouble at all.
Get yourself a good warranty like everyone says for peace of mind and you'll be good to go
Welcome to the forum btw

No I don't have a warranty for mine but I asked the 800 jag number a hypothetical question if my car had 4k less miles could I purchase the jag warranty and it was just under 2k...and that was straight through jag...I don't know why novi told you that rudy??? I got that quote directly from jag not at a dealer...they might have tacked on some gratuity! There's no sense in buying the jag warranty for that when you can get an aftermarket for under 3k...
