Default Sick of Reading!!

OK. Once and for all.... Has anyone out there changed the automatic tranny fluidthemselves? I read post after post and unless I missed one, there is still no one with definitive word! More importantly, has anyone done it with any fluid other than the $50/qt. JATCO fluid? If so, what did you use? Has anyone had the guts to be firstwith another fluid?

Yes, I belive RACERX82 has done it. I belive he used Dexron VI fluid and disconnected the tranny cooler, started the car and drained the fluid that way. Perhaps he will repost???

The Jags are very touchy when it comes to their fluid, even using the same weight from another manufacturer. I am a little fearfull to use anything esle, especially when you speak with the parts guy and he out right warns you from using anything else. I would love to hear this and how RacerX faired as well.

If you find my post on changing your tranny fluid, you will find that if you're a DIY'er, it's and easy process. Takes about 1 hr (that's with drinking a beer or two).

Use Dexron VI (6) fluid.

Once you flush and change, i wouldn't change it again for another 50K miles.
Unless of course you're speed racer and you drive like theres no tomorrow.

I did the fluid change on the jag twice. One at 20K and one at 40. Only because i beat the hell out of my jag, lead foot from hell, and of course all the mods i did to it didn't help my cause as a slow driver.

Dexron VI (6) is a fine new hydraulic fluid. You won't have any issues. I'd be more concerned with the rear diff. So little fluid in that thing...amazing it holds up.....

I'm searching, more like going on an archaeological dig - man you have a lot of posts...

So far you have to remove both tranny lines, hold onto them, have someone start the care and wait for the rush of fluid to come to a minimum, then shut the car off. This is to ensure the torque converter drains... Then what, do you just refill from the dipstick?

The rear diff and the tc are on my list once it warms up a little. Has the dex 6 expensive?

lol....that's what happens when you drink beer and have good friends here........you tend to drink and post a lot tips and whatnot info....

Dex 6 is inexpensive, to me anyway, but am not sure of the cost now.
Yes, once you completely drain the fluid, as mentioned above, i would add about 4 qts, then drain that again, (to flush the system) then just add the recommend amount. I'm not sure what that is now.....sorry....

The process is that same for any car.....simple, easy and fast!

Did you notice and difference in performance with the Dex VI like shift quality and rpm points?

Features and Benefits
The unique formulation of Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF combines synthetic and conventional base oils with a high-performance additive package. Compared with conventional ATFs, this advanced formulation provides superior performance in such critical areas as low-temperature flow, wear protection, viscosity and frictional stability and resistance to thermal breakdown. These outstanding features translate into significant operational benefits, and help to provide:
[ul][*]Controlled friction properties for smooth and efficient transmission of power across all normal temperature ranges.[*]Excellent lubricating characteristics for quiet operation, smooth shifting, and excellent wear protection.[*]Long fluid life and long transmission life as compared to a fully conventional ATF.[*]Exceptional oxidation stability and resistance to chemical deterioration.[*]Excellent viscosity stability (high viscosity index) to help assure adequate lubrication without excessive thinning in severe high-temperature service or thickening at low starting temperatures.[*]Superb protection against rusting and corrosion.[*]Resistance to foaming.[/ul]
Compatibility with common transmission seal materials and compatible with conventional ATFs.

Applicationsapproved for:
[ul][*]Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF is also suitable for use in vehicles that specify the following requirements:[*]Audi G 052 025-A2, G 052 162-A1[*]BMW LA2634[*]Esso LT 71141[*]ETL-7045E, ETL-8072B, N402[*]Ford* MERCON*, MERCON LV[*]All 2005 and earlier GM vehicles**[*]Honda ATF-Z1*[*]Hyundai SP-II, SP-III[*]Idemitsu K17[*]JWS 3309[*]Kia SP-II, SP-III[*]MAN 339F, V1, V2, Z1, Z2, Z3[*]Mazda ATF-III, ATF-MV[*]Mercedes-Benz 236.1, 236.2, 236.5, 236.6, 236.7, 236.9[*]Mitsubishi Diamond SP-II, SP-III[*]Nissan Matic-D, Matic-J, Matic-K[*]Subaru ATF[*]Toyota T-III, T-IV[*]Voith 55.6335.XX (G607, G1363)[*]Volvo 97340[*]ZF TE-ML 03D, 04D, 09, 14A, 14B, 16L, 17C[/ul]

I think I'm gonna try this this Spring with this stuff, using Racer's method of dumping it out the Transmission Cooler lines, then open theplug on the bottom todrain out any sitting down in the bottom.. Perhaps peform this again after a fill and a short drive..

Anything we should do about the filter? While on the trans topic - do they make shift kits for our cars?

A transmission filter? In the past when ever I drained a transmission, I removed the pad, cleaned the magnet, replaced the filter and new gasket? Do we even have one?

Talk about sealed for life huh?

Yeah I have been under it twice, once at the dealer when I purchased it, and a second time to do the hid's and I didn't get back that far.

So I guess the shiftkit is out of the question too! One thing I can tell about this trans that it has a certain way it likes to be driven - nice and easy yet wants to stretch its legs every now and again!

Yeah, the shifting cable is pretty fussy to be exactly adjusted..I wouldn't even mess with it..

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the tranny and a big hex (Allen) Screw plug on top just behind the battery where to fill it.

So I am assuming once the fluid stops streaming out of the lines, maybe some air might be heard? Seal them back up and start refilling from the location you mentioned?

How do we know the right amount to refill?
