Question Simple question or two...or three

Howdy, I searched these questions but could not find answers which both: A) pertained to my model year, and B) were consistent

See, we just got our first jyaag a week and a half ago and we have 30 days from purchase to find as many things wrong with car and dealer will fix free (unless its something silly like a scuff on some trim) - obviously I didn't buy from jag dealer, though I suspect that if I had there wouldn't be as many irregularities

there were some items which I've come across and am not certain if they are defective or design fault (also the functions of two items which I couldn't find in manual or forum search).

I) HIDs always on
- with selector switch to the O on the rotary dial the HIDs turn on with ignition on, selecting the parking lights or headlights mode does nothing unless ignition off, in which case all they do is turn on side markers, weak headlamps (not HID and not high beams), and possibly rear lights though I don't know

II) Difficulty opening front doors
- from outside all doors open and close well enough (not as much of that aristocratic dull thump on closing as my m35, but that's to be expected, but I digress), though from the inside, the front doors take an unexpected amount of force to open - so much so that when my folks first tried to open them they assumed they were locked. The resistance in nonlinear in nature, offering average resistance for 3/4 travel than the resistance doubles or triples for the remainder required to open the door. passenger side less difficult than driver side.

III) Metallic scraping noise at speed
- I assume this is my brakes, as they rumble under heavy braking (will get fixed), though I have heard many a story about car getting much quieter after changing tranny/TC/diff fluids. car has 161,000km on it (100,000 mi) and I dont know if previous owner did these fluid changes. Noise is only loud enough to hear with music muted, and appears most prominent at highway speeds. I have tried popping car into neutral on the highway to see if it affected sound - it did not, I was going to attempt shutting down engine as well but traffic conditions did not permit. how could I deduce if my drive-train is the source of this sound?

IV) Misc
- Two curiosities I've encountered are what are best described as neck curtains and a drop down microphone. I would inquire to their function. These "neck curtains" are rectangular bits of cloth that look as though they should extend over the bottoms of the headrests though they don't seem to fit in any way. second is what I thought was a sunglasses holder which is a few inches right of the driver side sun visor. It is rounded and in two halves, the bottom which un-clips and can be drawn down on a wire.text on it says something like "aim at speaker". I would guess it's for talking on the phone but I haven't used and the phone works fine.

Apologies if any of these were answered elsewhere, or if my descriptions are not precise enough to accurately answer.
-Thanks in advance

Elmoski, do you have a DRL version of the X-Type or a non-DRL version. That will help us figure out where your problem lies.

As for your doors, it most likely is the cable that runs from the door handle over to the door latch. Granted, if you manually unlock the doors first, do you have this same hardness? If not, then you have a second cable that runs to the door lock mechanism and that is what is binding up if not the lock mechanism.

As for your metallic sound, look at the brakes and play with them first. Odds are, that is your problem. if it isn't, then I would give the carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft a good greasing and then take things from there.

As for your miscellaneous questions, can't help you there. My car doesn't have either one of those options.

I would assume it came with DRL as the speedo has km/h as primary.

Elmoski, if you have a canadian car, your HID lights are functioning like they should. The low beams will remain on at all times as long as the ignition is out of the OFF position. All of your other parking lights (side, rear) should function normally (ie, only on when not in the OFF (O) position). If this if not the case, then please be very specific in what you are seeing when and I am sure I can figure out where your problem is.

Well, I'm just used to halogen low beams being used as DRL not the HIDs. If thats the way its designed though, I guess I'm relieved nothing is amiss.
