Default slow pick up

Looking at buying a 2003 2.1 petrol with 156k on the clock. It was a slow pick up but once the revs get up it accelerates ok. Is this normal? The owner said something like the computer needs to adjust to your driving habits. The car has sat for three to four months and the battery may have gotten flat

Do you know if the transmission fluid has ever been changed, because it would be due? A fresh fluid does make a huge difference to smooth operation. Check the health of your battery, as well, particularly if you don't know its age. Might not have anything to do with pickup, but will ensure a reliable future.
