Default Smudge78 2004 (54 plate) X-Type diagnostic fault codes

Default 2004 (54 plate) X-Type diagnostic fault codes recently found
Hi, I have just joined the forum and am keen to get to the bottom of a problem I have with my X-Type, anyone's help would be much appreciated.

My chariot has recently decided to pose me with the following problems:

1. No Speedo
2. No mileage displayed (running or overall)
3. Handbrake light on permanently.
4. ABS and Traction Control lights on permanently along with the engine management light.

I also experience a shuddering when at around 2000rpms, not sure if this is related. Anyway I took the car to my mechanic and he plugged it in to the diagnostic and it displayed the following codes:

1. P0500
2. P1637
3. P1000
4. U1039

He told me that it could be a number of things I.e the ABS module or simply a small wire that has snapped or lost continuity. He then told me that my best option was to join a forum, so here I am with my problem!

It's a pleasure to be here and I look forward to a hasty response if possible

Kind regards

Smudge78

Hi and welcome,

Since I'm sure most of the lads are off the forum enjoying Xmas I'll add my 2 cents:

P1000 is just a code saying that the code cycle failed (not a problem here)
P1637 is an speed sensor that needs replacing (I think that may be nearside rear one, you can look the codes up online)

The others I don't know for sure but there are posts on this forum and in the manuals you can download that lists all the codes.

Revere,

Thank you, I will have a look. In your opinion, with all the other lights on, do you think it could be the ABS module?

The 500 code is a vehicle speed sensor problem. It could be either just the sensor or the module itself. I would recommend replacing the sensor first since it's cheaper.

Revere,

Thanks for your input. I'll probably do both, as everything else seems to be illuminated! I've seen a decent module on eBay for £35.

Cheers

P1000 says you cleared the codes or disconnected the battery. It'll turn to P1111 if you let it and no codes happen to stop it.

Ok, a speed sensor will not only cause the speedo to not work, but also to cause the ABS/traction control to be disabled. Before replacing the sensor check the connector for water or corrosion and that it's properly secure. Sometimes it's just an easy fix, never know. Probably the sensor, give a used one a try, clear the codes and go from there.
Remember to make sure the battery's fully charged too.

As JagV8 has pointed out, P1000 is NOT an error code, it is a status code indicating all OnBoard Monitoring Tests have not been completed since the last memory clear.

I would first question the kind of scantool your mechanic is using. P0500 and U1030 are not Jaguar defined codes for the 2004MY X-Type.

It's important to use an appropriate scantool in conjunction with the Jaguar DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) tables for accurate troubleshooting. Generic code lookups are very misleading with Jaguars!

Thanks, I appreciate your input. But with a new module fitted (if the problem is with the module) will I need to re programme or can the codes just be deleted.

I _think_ (but do not know for sure on an X-Type) that you can just swap an ABS module for another with identical markings (as you can on the S-Type).

This is definitely not true for every module!

Obviously, have key out of car while you do it.
