Default snowflake on dash?

After just learning how to turn on the on-dash diagnostics while researching my alternator issue, I got to the part that turns on all the dashboard lights. I noticed that I have the yellow snowflake that indicates cold conditions outside. However it has never turned on in two years.
Could my 05 xtype not have the feature, but have a working light? Or is there a way to actually turn this on?

Mine is an 04, this weekend I'm putting it in test mode to see but when it gets to a few degrees above freezing (in Canada it's 3 degrees Celcius) I get a beep, then the message indicated it's 3 degrees or whatever and that's the warning. I've never seen the snowflake.
