Default It was a spun bearing (Video)

HI Guys

As stated before - GREAT FORUM !!
It took a little longer than we thought getting it with the Thanksgiving holiday and working around schedules. It was a spun bearing on #1

We are getting ready to install the motor purchased from an owner in TX (wrecked car) this weekend. Name: photo-7.jpg

Spend time, cleaning up bolts, DRILLING OUT broken bolts and re tapping and purchasing "mostly exhaust" parts ! (which is funny as had we were comparing costs to turn crank/rebuild or not) Turns out we needed exhaust no matter which way we went.

Looks like we will have a "Core Motor" to sell cheap -and or offer some parts if someone needs them. Only value is to a Jag lover that is going to go the Lincoln swap route or if someone need upper end (heads).

Will keep updating this as it goes

Mark (for Petah)

WOW! That is a very, very spun bearing! haha. Good luck on the engine install! I am very curious to see how long the engine removal and installation takes with a used engine as I would just like to be prepared for the worst in the future.

I'm not sure there is a bearing left in there, maybe there will be a sequel?

Well... that motor isn't getting used so there will be NO sequel to THIS affair!

There are a couple of message-chains with details of engine replacements that include lots of pictures. Suggest locating and looking at them before you begin the work in earnest.

I did take off the cap. Looked just like a "spun bearing" like in 310Jag and JFinley123's problems! Bearing is welded to the crank, with just a sliver left of a "razor sharp" half shelf.

We have been working all day. Not really RACING but insuring all is correct. Time includes swapping over, cats, pipes, ALT, Compressor and PS pump.
Goal is to have the cradle under the car tonight , sleep and get started tomorrow AM to get in car.

My friend has been "you aren't unhappy at JAG" right? (I did a 2.3 EFI T/C in his XR4TI years ago and (HATED IT) compared to my SVO's) Lots of room.

Used a little time (while Petah was writing code) to make a Transfer Case cooling duct as shown here.

Funny I read remove the transfer case duct - but never found. When I was doing the support for the oil pan I saw the "remnants" of a plastic piece.

A little search here and found. Have the car up on the lift now - going to to roll the assembly under and call it a night. Getting an early start tomorrow. - best part is that we had all the new parts today. Had some stud issues with the cats - but with two engine had extras.

Default So I guess you are to post FINISHED (when done) ?

Drove the car for an hour today ! Install went well - couple of "ups and down" PUN intended . Started to lower the car and forgot to have the AC lines below the subframe !

GREAT used motor from the place in MASS. New lease on life for this car.
Invested in some stuff to make much better! K&N Air Filter, made the TC duct.

Motor $1000.00
Paypal Fees $40.00
Shipping $210.00 Houston to MI (right to garage door of my home)
Exhaust Pipes $405.00 (Cat back Jag, Walker combo)
Coolant Cap (ARE THEY ALL BAD?) Jag 30.33
Oil , Filters, Coolant , Belts and "misc hardware" (mostly body clips and plugs)
was another $200.00

We probably couldn't get this lucky again BUT it when the way we needed it for this job.

Mark
P.S. What people DON'T tell you is the TIME it takes for prep and drilling out broken bolts !! (This is MI car) IF I look I'll be looking in AZ !

47,000... It's been great so far with the exception of a small coolant leak at the thermostat housing.

Same Jaguar 3.0L except it was out of a 2005 X-Type (going into my 2004). The differences we saw between the two were few and inconsequential to the swap.
