Default stalling x type

2002 X-type sport 2.5 manual with 156,000 miles

Several weeks ago my car stalled while being driven. First time less than 2 miles from home turning into a parking lot. Restarted after 20-25 minutes. Same morning 20 miles later stalled on freeway, was able to coast off. Restarted an hour+ later and took to repair shop. The check engine light comes on when stall happens, goes off when car restarts. Shop reported no codes in OBD, kept car for a week, it never stalled for them. Drove car for 2 weeks no problems. Stalled last Sunday morning at a toll booth, sat 25 and restarted. Monday it stalled again on same part of freeway as second time. Took back to auto repair, they changed an electrical relay. After picking up this morning it stalled again!!! At the same location an first stall! Ironic, no. The mechanic specializes in Jaguars, without any codes he feels the issue maybe electrical and is suggesting to replace the fuse panel. After reading several posts, sounds more like fuel filter/ fuel pump. Any feedback will be most appreciated. Thanx

CS, when the car dies, do you notice the ODO dropping suddenly and then coming back? From what you are decribing, it is sounding like the ECU is loosing power and it is causing the engine to turn off. The other check that I would recommend is to check the fuel rail and make sure that the pressure is remaining where it should (40-50 psi with the engine not turning, 30-40 psi with the engine running). If the pressure is low, it will cause the engine to turn off like you are seeing. You can also do an immediate check by turning the ignition key to the RUN position (do not take to the START position), let it set there for about 5 seconds, and then attempt to start the car. If the car starts, then this is another sign that the fuel pump is on its way out.

After these checks, the list is too numerous to just start saying "check this then this then ......".
