Default Starter motor problems

Hi all a newbie to the forum,
I am after a bit of advice , I recently had bother starting my 02 x type 2lt sport
And after looking through this site I had my starter motor out and bench tested
At a local garage that I trust
I replaced it this morning only to be met with the same problem , I have had a look at the starter fuse and its ok and have reprogrammed my keys ,
Dose any anyone have any info as to what might be the cause of my problem

When you put the key in the ignition and turn all you get is a rapid clicking sound but no start ,all the light on the dash show when the key is in position 2 and that's about it

Could be a dying battery, or the starter's solenoid switch. Try with a known-good battery, and failing that see if you or someone can cross the solenoid switch manually, e.g. with a coin.

Could I cross the solenoid in place with a long screw driver rather than remove to bench test again

You could. But whatever you do, make sure the car is in neutral with the handbrake on!
