Except jack to support the engine, every thing work from the top; Disconnect battery cable, remove the engine brace bars, remove the starter battery cables, remove two bolts (or three? It have been for awhile), work around the hoses and wiring harness to pull the starter out, put the new one in and install every thing in reverse, take about an hour for the first timer.

The alternative method =
1. Deliver car to dealer for servicing appointment.
2. Assume the Jag owner stance (i.e. bent forward from the waist, hands grasping your ankles).
3. Remain in this position until car is completed and ready to be released to you.
4. Limp, waddle, crawl (because of the reaming you just received) to payment window.
5. Hand them all your cash, your first born, and sign the second mortgage papers.
6. Drive carefully home, listening for something else to go wrong.
