steering wheel, gas pedal
I just purchased a 2004 x-type. When I look at other pictures of 04 X-types, some of the steering wheels and gas pedals differ from mine. My steering wheel center is larger and has the audio controls attached to the sides and my gas pedal hangs down. Other pictures of 04's show steering wheels with smaller centers and the audio controls on the spokes, and those cars seem to have gas pedals like BMW's that attach at the floor.
What gives? Was one part of an option? Was it a mid-year revision? Just wondering...Thanks!

I didn't notice that gas pedals differ year to year for the X Types . As to the steering wheel, yeah it is like a face lift or slight revision . I like the earlier ones better but may be the current model's can be more useful
Honestly don't know GMAN........although your idea of a mid year revision sounds logical.
I'm guessin Buck or one of the more knowledgable members will know and post soon.

I was guessing just a mid-year revision. I read that Jaguar made some internal revisions and quality adjustments for the 04 model year, I was just worried that my early production (build date 10/03) X-type didn't have these updates.
been out of town for a few weeks and finally got a chance to chime in. there were actually 2 changes during the 2004 model year - 2004, 2004.25 and then 2004.5. the steering wheel was one of the items that was changed. i don't know that any major safety issues were addressed with the changes but rather they were mostly cosmetic, like changing the position of the steering wheel controls. there is a thread somewhere that ended up listing all of them, but my memory is not what it used to be. i can remember 2 of them - center console went from one to two cupholders and the a-pillars went from being plastic to an almost felt-like covering on them.
