I have a 1995 XJ6, The steering wheel keeps locking up as I'm driving, it happens during a right hand turn. It only happens intermittenly. I start trying to turn the wheel in different directions and this unlocks it. My machenic says hes never heard of this. Has anyone heard of this?

 

Tamy, to me it sounds like there is a fault with the turn signal switch and it is catching on the release mechanism. Unfortunately, about the only way to verify this is to tear apart the steering column, pull the turn signal switch out for a bit and see what happens then.

What part of VA are you in? I work on our cars all the time and if you don't mind driving into MD a little ways, we can figure this out and make sure you don't have issues in the future. I am located down near California, MD (yes, it is a town in MD, just south of Hollywood, of all places).

Tamy, if you ever are in the area, keep an eye out for a British Racing green X-Type running around. Mine is easy to spot from all the others. Simply look at the back of any X-Type running around and I am the only one with a painted piece above the license plate with chrome lettering.
