Default Steering wheel swap

Hey dudes,

I am looking to swap out my steering wheel on my 2003 X (use the same center portion, just change out the "wheel" part of it. Anyone do this? How hard is the job, is a matter of just looking for screws, unscrewing, and pulling around to figure it out?

Thanks in advance, cheers.

If it's like any other car with airbags, I would disconnect the fuse for the air bags, then look for any holes in the steering wheel assembly or any clips that might hide any screws or bolts. Then remove the air bag portion to get to the wheel, and from the it's just one big bolt in the middle. Then, you'll need a steering wheel puller because that bitch is in there TIGHT!

With a 2003 wheel there are two small screws behing the stalks that hold the airbag in place. Disconnect the battery, leave it for ten minutes to let the backup batteries drain and then push the airbag in as if using the horn. That should expose the screws in the screw holes on either side and allow you to remove them. Then the airbag should lift right out. Be careful not to drop it, and always point it away from your face and body (hold it vertically, facing sidewards).
