I am going to replace the front struts and rear shocks on my 2003 x type. should I replace the strut mounts and bearings at the same time?

Gary, must you, no. Is it a good idea? That is debateable. Depends on if you are having issues with keeping the alignment of the car. if you are, then I would say to replace them. If you are getting funny noises as you turn the steering wheel, replace them. Other wise, don't waste your money (about $160 to get the mounts and bearings).

I am looking to change my shocks and springs all around. Any reccomendations as to the best brand to buy and where to buy from? I have a 2.5 non sport. From what I hear the sports are about a half inch lower. Any suggestions? I would like to achieve a lower look but with a premium ride quality. Is that even possible?

Keep in mind that lowering your car is going to expose you to excessive tire wear issues due to increased camber with no adjustment unless you get creative. I've been fighting this on our car since we got it and just today elected to get drastic to get it under control. I am cautiously optimistic that the issue is corrected. Personally I would stay at stock height, they look great just as they sit IMO.
