Default Swapping Out Transfer Cases

I currently have a 2005 x type sport with dsc and need to get a new transfer case my question is can I install a 02/03 transfer case with the viscous coupling without interferring with the dsc system as my transfer case now is non-viscous(open) or will that present problems?

Dell I appreciate the response but I have read the entire forum and maybe I missed it but it just talks about the dsc system and the transfer case nothing about using an ealier style transfer case in post 04 models.

It actually DOES talk about a pre 2004.25 HAVING DSC, so reading the link, particularly "Thermo's" comments on DSC being part of the BRAKING system it would seem to me at least that it would have little to do with whether the X has or doesn't have the Vicious type transfer case.

And Astromorg's link explains VC and comments on VC vs non VC equipped cars with DSC.

Dell so if I am reading the forum right and understanding you correctly I can install an 02/03 transfer case with viscous coupling on a 05 x type that came stock with a non viscous transfer case. Sorry for the confusion on my end I just can’t find a straight answer I understand the dsc is controlled by the brakes but I just wanted to make sure that the dsc would still work the exact same as it does with a non viscous transfer case as it does with a viscous one.

Car, it should work. The sensors should be the same and the bolt patterns are the same. So, should not be a big issue. Read up on pulling the front half shafts. Easy thing to do, but, also very easy to do it wrong and now you are diving into the transmission.

Car lover,
We swapped out worn transfer case in my 2005 X type which was a non viscous type to a low mileage 2002 viscous coupled one with no issues.
Drives superbly
