Temp Gauge frustration

Temp Gauge frustration
Is anyone else frustrated by the coolant temperature gauge? Why do the engineers have to fiddle with everything? What is fast becoming the "old style" gauges in the marketplace used to show a close approximation of coolant temperature, if not always exact (my old Saab 9000, for example). Now, they have to doctor the results and tell the driver simply that a) engine too cold b) engine in normal temp range c) overheating
So essentially they've made it a crude 3-option idiot proof thing. Might as well put 3 lights there for all practical purposes. I would like to know exactly where the temperature is when it is in the "normal range", for example. Are we close the overheating? Are we still not warm enough to give the engine a full acceleration? I understand the engineers think they know best (and might be right) but what harm would the old style gauge do anyway?
If it ain't broke don't fix it...

RE: Temp Gauge frustration
oh-k..lol...how do you feel about the oil pressure than? lol
Anyway, there is a ODBII controller that plugs into your computer connector under the dash, cost about 300 bucks and will tell you EXACTLY what your temp is, oil pressure, fuel pressure, correct speed....and many more other functions if you feel you need to know the exact thingie of everythingie thing....lol
Fits very nicly in the ashtray and with a push of a button you can see all your engine functions.....very cool and easy to use....
