Default Temporary Instrument panel failure

Hi folks, looking for some advice on whether my problem is indicating a future permanent failure or just a glitch.

Started car up tonight and none of the analogue instruments moved - speedo, rev counter, fuel and temp. The message centre was fine. Drove car for 1 mile, stopped and restarted - same issue. Drove for ~4 miles stopped, restarted and instruments all fine.

Anyone else experienced this and know what the likely cause is? Car has no known other issues.

For reference it's a RHD 2002 2.5SE manual with 98k miles on the clock.

Cheers,
Grant

I had it happen once. I didn't notice it til I had driven about a mile. Pulled over and turned it off, restarted and everything was fine. I chalked it up to possible misalignment in the ignition switch where instrument panel didn't get power but everything else did.
This malfunction has never happened again, so I can't really say what caused it.

Thanks for the reply Bob, hopefully it's just a rare glitch, touchwood or 'knock on wood' in NA.

I had the same problem once a while ago when I jumped in and turned the key at the same time as closing the door (I was in a bit of a hurry). It's not happened again.

this happened to me before. was driving back to work on my lunch break one rainy day, looked down to check speed, 0 mph, 0 rpm, no lights... pulled into work and popped the hood. apparently i had closed my hood with the cover of the "under-hood" fuse panel on top of my battery box cover. i was checking fuses and had the cover off, forgot to put it back on and closed my hood. well a little water got in there and thats why it happened to me. hasnt happened since. -stevis05
