Default That's it I am going to buy the 16 inch rims

I have already replaced two cracked Cayman 17 inch rims and now I have two cracked ones again.

Being that I like the look of the 16 inch rims much more and that almost brand new looking ones can be had for peanuts.

Are the OEM 16 inch rims less prone to cracking?

Any opinions welcome

The former owner if my 2002 X-Type cracked two 17 inch rims, and bent a 3rd. I don't know what he hit, or how hard.

The rim shop where I replace them said (keep in mind their business is selling rims) they see a lot of bent and cracked aluminum rims on European luxury cars: BMW's, Mercedes, Audi's, and yes, Jag's too. They implied European luxury car makers use thinner aluminum rims, more prone to damage. Again, they're in the business of selling rims, so consider the source.

The replacement X-Type OEM 17" rims now on the car have well withstood ~110K miles of Houston potholes. Each time the tire shop balances them, I watch the edge of the rim as the tire spins, looking for any wobble in the rim edge. Thankfully, none thus far.

The bigger the rim the less tire you have to protect them. I could never understand why so many people get those big wheels and then to have only a thin tire around them. Maybe they look nice but you better stay on well maintained roads. I guess I'm from the old school but I like a nice beefy tire under me.

Google "Jaguar Artemis rim". Looks like it was a standard on the S-Type.

Here's a diagram of all the genuine preface lift alloys.

Thanks so much for the help guys. As mentioned those are S type rims. They where on sale at a very good price locally and I thought they may have been fitted to X types, but it looks like they where not. :-(

I am very particular about having original wheels on my cars, and I won't interchange even within Jaguar wheels from other models.

The offset is 10mm different on the S Type, as I recall. Kind of a bummer, some S wheels really look nice.

Well those Houston potholes are what's cracking my 17 inch rims!! Its insane because my Xtype is my "daily driver/beater" but work is a mile away from home! And as hard as I avoid potholes, Richmond street is still killing my rims.

I agree, they are nice, but I have a strict original rim policy. I might consider using rims from a later model year within the same model range, but never from a different model.

Nope, S and X-Type, along with XFs and later XJs, all have:
5 lug 4.25 inch or 108mm High Positive Offset wheels.

The can all share wheels and the only concern is wheel diameter and brake
rotor fit.

I am currently running 18" XF wheels on my S-Type.
