Default Are there mechanics that will replace just the speed/tone/reluctor rings?

I have a 2004 X-Type and unfortunately my rear speed/reluctor/tone rings are bad. The CV joint is fine. However I haven't found a mechanic willing to do just the rings, they all want $1500+ to replace both CV axles. Are there mechanics out there that will do just the rings? Also, it it a good idea to do just the rings or is it better to replace the whole axle or at least the halfshaft and joint since getting to it is such a pain? I definitely don't want to have to pay to have my whole rear suspension taken apart a year later or something in the case that the CV joints fail.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. It is definitely a model specific question.
