Too high pressure on low side of AC lines
I have a 2005 Jag X-Type with a 2.5, manual transmission, and 265k miles. The AC isn't blowing cool/cold air. I checked the low pressure side (as I was getting ready to recharge the system) and noticed I had over 100psi on that side. Ambient air was 80 degrees. Any suggestions?
What was your high side pressure? Was the compressor running, or just the clutch? If you had 100psi on the low side, and the compressor wasn't running, you probably don't need more 134a. You may have a blown fuse, or bad AC relay.......Be cool....Mike
Just chased this down on mine.
Had the clutch let go, and checked out the rest of the system. Got a set of strange reading, very high on the low side, a bit low on the high side.
Since replacing the compressor is cheaper than repalcing the clutch, went that way, along with a new filter-drier and TXV (valve).
Old valve was full of metal; looks like the clutch failed because the compressor went tango-uniform.
Uh-oh.
Our condensors have a huge number of tiny passages that simply can't be successfully flushed (although the evaporator flushed just fine, thank heavens). Odered a new one...negligible cost since the system is apart.
We cut the old one open...if it hasn't gone yet, I'll take a few pictures. The little bit of crud from the compressor had clogged about half of the passages...and THAT will raise the pressure in the system for sure (same volume of gas and oil in less space).
If you get to the point where you are rebuilding the AC, spend the extra $60 and just get a new condensor.
