Default Tow bars and parking sensors?

Hi to All.
I collect my first Jaguar on Wednesday, an X Type 2.2 S D with parking sensors.

I want to fit a tow bar and prefer the fixed flanged types that allow the fitting of a protector plate between the tow hook and bumper. Do the parking sensors work OK with this type as I've heard that on the X Type they can see the tow hitch and register a false positive.

If there are any X Type owners out there who can answer? I'd be grateful.

Some do and some don't, it depends on the make of towbar. Would also depend on if they are genuine sensors or an aftermarket kit. The main culprit though is the electric socket(s) and it's(their) position. My towbar doesn't affect the sensors but my electrics are tucked well out of the way. Mine is also an estate which may or may not have the same positioning of sensors.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I'll take a chance and if I run into problems I can make a new bracket to reposition the socket.

You don't flat tow any X Type. You won't believe the things in the driveline that will grenade. The only way to tow an X Type is to flat bed it.......Just a small I don't really care how you do it hint. Read your owner's manual under Recovery. They only advise using the tow eye for removing it if it is a traffic obstruction......Be cool...Mike

Hi Mike.
That's interesting, thanks for your reply. I'm fitting a tow bar to the car so it can tow a trailer, not too allow the car to be towed, but -

Does the advise apply to cars with manual gear-boxes as well as automatics? I will certainly read the manual as you suggest, only 24 hours now until I get my hands on it!!

Hey Mike,

Please remember that they are in the UK and they have the option of a 2-wheel drive x-type which should be fine to tow. We in the US only have the AWD versions in which you are correct in needing a flat bed.

On the flatbed note, while I was messing with my x before the engine replacement, I had 2 different towing companies (2 different occasions) show up with a regular wrecker after I requested a flatbed. Both companies told me it was ok to tow the car in Neutral and tried to proceed to hook it up. I told them both no and to send a flatbed, which both ended up doing. It amazes me the lack of knowledge that people in that business have, but then again, I guess it gets them more business in the long run, so maybe it's their ploy.

Thanks for the clarification. In the states, we call that a trailer hitch. I wouldn't tow anything too heavy though, if it is AWD. The transfer case seems to be the weak link, and I imagine a manual gearbox in neutral, would be the same as a automatic gearbox in neutral, except for that dinging to remind you, that you have the gearbox in neutral, and the engine isn't running;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;(cat writing)....Take care....Mike

Default Tow bar /reversing sensors

Hi
My X type 2.2 estate 06 Reg
Just recently bought (off Ebay advertiser) the flange type towbar(Witter).
Although awkward to align the bolts on the exhaust side ,managed to fit without removing the bumper or exhaust (just dropped it off the rubber hanger).
Ordered and fitted the relay wiring kit and was pleasantly surprised that there is no interference or false triggering of the parking sensors.
Hope this helps.
Regards
