Well after 2 opinions and much help from this forum - looks like I need to replace the transmission on my 2002 X TYPE 2.5L.

Interested in options to a rebuilt as that is way pricey.

Perhaps a used tranny someone is parting out or some salvage sources.

Any help is appreciated.

I put a rebuilt transmission in my XJ8 for $1,700 because I felt it was well worth it. Guess it depends on how much you want to spend. I shied away from a used one because it wasn't much cheaper and I felt it was more of a gamble. The rebuilt one came with a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty.

 

That's a great deal - where'd you get that? Quotes for rebuilts on my x type are between $3 - 4K - add in labor and we're pushing $5k. If you have a source for less I'd love to check them out. It's only because of these high prices that I'm looking at used trannies which I've seen for around $1400 with relatively low mileage - Thanks! Michael
