Anyone know how to check the level of the transmission

Check the FAQ and do a search. Plenty of information including pictures are available.

Short answer, motor running flat ground, remove the bolt on the side of the tranny, 1/2 way up, look in FAQ for pics, if the fluid is running out you're fine, if not the fill hole is under the battery with a rubber stop in it. If you asre going to fill it, drain it and refill it. There is someplace here a complete description with pictures on doing it with the motor running and flushing through the fluid, involves a long hose and funnel and 2 people.
