Default Transfer Case - How much would you pay?

Serious question now.

How much would you pay, for a new, bulletproof, race-engineered transfer case, the sort that would be used in the Dakar Rally?

A direct bolt-in replacement, that you can thrash & abuse, and never have to worry about it failing on you. But nevertheless totally street-driveable.

Please guys a show of hands and a bid price.

Bear in mind "good" 2nd hand units sell on ebay for $750-$1000 with 60K+ miles on them, and no telling how long they'll last. New price from Jag? You tell me...

There might be a chance to have such a beastie, if there is enough demand and the price expectation can be met.

Thanks for your input!

cambo, if I was in line to get a transfer case and I had an option, I would say that based on the fact that having a new transfer case installed is about $3000, I would be willing to spend say $3500 to have this "beastie" transfer case installed. A lot of it would depend on my desire at the moment to get lots more power out of the car. At the moment, I am enjoying the car more as a touring car vice something to toss around corners. Call me old, but I am enjoying the nicer ride. If I want to go fast, then I already have a few cars that I am tossing around and looking at buying (Lotus Elise-supercharged, 1970 Dodge Charger with a supercharged Viper V10 under the hood, or a UBB Ford Mustang).

So, in short, I am willing to pay about $500 more than a new transfer case for something that would be bullet-proof.

Talking Like the idea!

I'd definitely put down 500 ontop for a bulletproof one These stock cases just fall apart!

$5,000. I've already been looking around at custom gearboxes, sequential for an awd application with transfer case so I know how much just a custom transfer case will cost. And if it's got the specs I'm looking for, $5k. Find one cheaper and it's not what I'm talking about, I guarantee it.

So Cambo, any updates? What was the ballpark figure the shop told you when you asked them? (I'm totally guessing this is what you did. Which company? Holinger? Quaife?)
