Default transmission fault 2002 xtype

02 jag, xtype, 70k miles.

i drove my xtype yesterday, and it ran amazing as always.
i came out this morning and it would not start. battery checked out good.

this display said" transmission fault"
also, it would not allow me to take it out of park even with key forward and brake applied.

Is the P on the J-Gate lit up? If you move the drivers seat all the way back, below and back of shifter, you will sees Phillips head screw in carpeted area of console. Remove it and pull that carpeted piece toward you. Look on side of J-Gate and you will see a little butterfly switch. Rotate it quarter turn and while holding it, pull shifter out of park into neutral. See if car starts. Make sure park brake is on.

Sorry, J-Gate is the shifter - shape of a J?
You do not have to take off the wood surround. Justthe carpeted piece. It is long and runs down the sideof center console. The length I it. Remove the 1 screw and pull cover toward you.

Butterfly will only rotate one way. Will be tight.

I do too, but easier for others to do it the longer way.

Is the P or N lit up when you turn key on?
Put back in park and disconnect battery for 5 minutes. Then try and restart.

thanks,

and on the other day, my girlfriend drove it a few days before and left a light on and drained the battery, which ruined it and i took it out and put a new one in it. then i had to put the radio code in it, which the dealler couldnt find, so i had to pull the radio out to get the numbers off. i havent reinstalled the radio/ac units yet, it drove fine, then i parked it and havent been able to start it since i parked it the other day. the radio/ac units not installed shouldn't make it not run right?

so, i dont know what a TCM is and the P doesnt light up when its in P.

i dont think the battery trick will work to reset the computer, bc i tried that initially bc i thought the alarm had some safety aspect on it and thats why it wouldnt start, but ill try it again.

if it had started in N, what would that have meant?

ha, this is funny. i have never had this happen, but i reinstalled the radio/ac unit into the dash and the jag runs now.

that is crazy!

well, thanks for the helpfull suggestions and great responce.

this is a new one to add to your list of possible reasons why jags dont start...make sure the radio and ac units are connected..haha

take it easy.

also..do they sell any kind of supercharger/turbo kits for xtype 3.0?

Another example of customers not providing all the pertinent info. Had you said those were disconnected, would have been first thing to tell you. Your car relies on a complete network to run.
Glad it isfixed however.
