The trim on the defrost vents on my dash are raising up and rattling. What can I do to "glue them back down"?
I have a 2003 X-type...

Funny you should say "glue them back down" because that is what you should do!

I used Silicone RTV clear sealant/adhesive...pop the button out and put a few dabs on the bottom part and stick it back in..the RTV will make it easier to re enter if every you have to.

The Lexus SC series of cars has a similar issue with the "register" (center vent). Due to the hot and cold dramatic swing in temps of the vents the plastic starts to deform. In the summer they go from 130+ degrees to 65 degrees in less than one minute. Vice versa for the winter. No plastic can take this abuse over a period of time. Everyone in the industry has this issue, but the people making two and three piece vents will see the problem the most.

The Lexus vent actually cracks down the middle rather than deforming. It seem that car manufacturers still don't quite get the big picture here...... don't make vents from plastic, the plastic cannot handle the temperature swings.

Go to the dealer and get a new button. That is what I did to quiet mine down.
