It isn't high on the list of things I want to upgrade, but I was trying to determine whether the trip computer was a plug-n-play sort of thing or whether there is programming that needed to be done after the dash module was sourced.

The few threads I saw discussed a need to get the stalk with the TRIP button on it, but the '03 I bought already has that...but it is only capable of resetting the trip odometer given that the car lacks the trip computer buttons under the light switch selector.

If it would require reprogramming, then it isn't worth my time since, IMO, the trip computer functions were more of a novelty than anything else (at least based on how I have used it in the XK8)...but if it is just a matter of popping the dash plate to insert the new controls, hooking them up and starting the car, then it is something I would keep an eye out for.

mbelanger, it will require reprogramming. You will also need a new headlight switch as the headlight switch has some buttons built into it that control the trip computer functions.

 

ok, thnx...didn't realize there was more to the stalk on the trip computer than just the 'trip' button at the end. That makes it more effort than it would have been worth, although even the need to reprogram would have been enough to move it waaaaaaay down the list of ebay or salvage shopping.
