Trunk (or boot) latch - how do i get to it?
The trunk latch on my 2002 xtype sedan is not working. The only way to get the trunk open is to pull the emergency release handle inside the trunk. I can hear a "click" when I push the unlock button on the keyfob, but the lock doesn't release. I'm trying to get the plastic cover off to look at the lock/latch assembly - removed the obvious screws, but the plastic cover won't budge. Do I need to remove the felt covering the truck first? Any help appreciated.
sacrider, if you do end up getting a new latch assembly, first try Ken@britishparts.com (send him an e-mail at this addy). he should be able to hook you up. If he can't, then try http://www.jaguarparts.com. I know that they will be able to get you what you are after as this is a dealership that has very good prices and their customer satisfaction is really hard to beat. I have used them a few times and have gotten what I wanted the first time.
I'm still in need of ideas on how to remove the truck latching mechanism. It's broken inside, the car is out of warranty and I can't afford to bring it to the dealer. Once I get to the latch, I'll be able to figure out whats wrong. Any ideas???
Thanks
Thanks
If the emergency release in the bootlid will open the car you will probably have to remove the rear seats to get into the boot
I had locked my keys in the boot on my 2002 3.0 which had fixed seats
Just quickly lift up the base with a sharp pull upwards and remove it.
This will reveal 2 torx bolts at the bottom of the seat backing
Undo the 2 torx bolts which allows the seat back to be removed and then you can get into the boot.
UK cars never had a boot release in the lid which glows in the dark but managed to get keys out with a coathanger

Thanks Buck, I'm currently getting into the trunk that way - I've got a strap attached to the emergency trunk release. What I need to know is how to access the trunk latch itself, so I can fix or replace it.
